Size is omitted because we believe that shoes MUST be purchased after actually trying them on. However, the author’s feet are wide and have a low instep. Even if the size of my foot is just right, I often find that the wings are not fully closed, and the inside of the shoe is usually gouged at the little toe. Also, when I wear new leather shoes, the area between the first and second joints of my thumb is usually torn up. For reference.
Size true to size is appropriate. The leather is hard at first, so it is difficult to wear a smaller size.
The upper is high-shine leather (so-called glass leather), which does not lose its luster and can be cleaned by simply wiping with a wet rag, so relatively little maintenance is required. However, because it is glass leather, the surface will crack and develop a unique wrinkle as it is worn in, and shoe lovers will recognize it as glass leather at a glance. (Glass leather is a relatively inexpensive material, and not in a good way.)
There is no liner on the inside, and the leather floor is exposed on the inside. This hurts a lot when you first start wearing them. Especially at first, the glass leather is hard, so it puts even more stress on your feet.
After some time is spent breaking them in, the leather becomes very soft and easy to wear, which is exactly what a slip-on should sound like.
Because the stitching is not very tight, the shoes become waterlogged after wearing them for a long time. In particular, the seam at the toe part is gradually widening, which is not good. When I buy shoes with leather soles, I usually wear them for a while to wear down the soles a little and then put rubber soles on them. Basically, I have never had a problem with this method, but this pair of shoes has a shallow seam on the bottom of the sole, which causes the seam to be cut off prematurely. This is probably the cause of the loose toe seam. I am planning to all-sole them in the near future.
I recommend these for office workers because the glass leather is stain resistant. I am thinking of buying another pair of loafers for in-house wear as I feel they are quite worn out.
The author has been wearing them for over 5 years and has purchased shoes there during that time, but still uses them frequently. They are easy to wear and stain resistant, which is excellent in itself. However, training is required until the shoes settle down. Personally, I have the impression that these shoes are in the mid 20,000 yen range. If the price exceeds 30,000 yen, I would choose other more expensive and better loafers.
G.H.BASS, born in the United States in 1876, is widely known as the brand that gave birth to loafers. It is no exaggeration to say that its existence is synonymous with loafers. Loafers made by the Mackay method are lightweight, and their high flexibility is a great advantage. [1 英訳]
